Continuum – The Art of Daniel Graves

Founded by Vasari 500 years ago, The Accademia delle Arti del Disegno was home to members the likes of Michelangelo, DaVinci, Donatello, and Cellini. A solo exhibition of works by painter, Daniel Graves, will open at the Accademia in February 2019. It will be the first exhibition of this kind in Florence since the artist’s arrival in the city 40 years ago.

The venue - the Accademia’s exhibition hall - offers the perfect setting to showcase his life-long study of the human figure, a central theme of his work. About the event, Daniel says, “This exhibition reflects the story of my life: my deeply felt connection to Florence and the artistic traditions that have been upheld here for so many centuries.”

A large mural (260 x 340cm), entitled “Prodigy”, along with in-process sketches, will be on display at the exhibition. The subject of the painting: a story of a young prodigy assisting in the construction of a 21st century monument to humanity. As the young draftsman (prodigy) presents her drawing to a studio of master artists, they turn to acknowledge the accomplished drawing of the student. This moment was chosen to illustrate the “continuum” from master to student.
